When Yves Saint Laurent founded his namesake fashion house in 1961, he introduced a revolutionary take on women’s clothing. Inspired by the structure of menswear and the feeling of power that came with wearing it, his approach was a celebration of gender fluidity that shook the fashion industry and challenged conventional attitudes.

In 1982, Saint Laurent declared “I am no longer concerned with sensation and innovation, but with the perfection of my style.” From then until his retirement in 2002, he would refine personal signatures and push his creations, specifically within haute couture, to new heights.
