"THE KING EDWARD CUP"

An engraved two-handled cup and cover celebrating the coronation of Edward VIII, 1937


the shallow bowl titled and inscribed with significant dates and rhyme between scrolled handles, the hollow knop stem enclosing a coin on a square foot engraved with lion masks emblematic of War and Peace, inscriptions and national flowers, inscribed to the underside number 38 of 42, the cover with crown finial, engraved with the crowned cypher of Edward VIII and the crowned Regnal name and coronation dates of his homonymous predecessors

The design for the `King Edward Cup` is recorded in the volume of the Thomas Goode archive dedicated to the wares produced for Edward VIII coronation.  Included is a letter from the company dated November 1936 stating "The piece has been made after surmounting manufacturing difficulties, and the engraving thereon is the finest it has been possible to obtain."
