the matching pair to the service made for the scale model for Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House at Windsor Castle, designed by Sir Edwin Landseer Lutyens, comprising:

one service gilt with the crown monogram MR within gilt dentil rim, including an oval serving dish moulded with gravy well, a smaller oval serving dish, a circular serving dish, one circular tureen and cover, a circular bowl and cover, another serving bowl (without cover), a footed bowl, six soup plates, six dinner plates and six side plates; another service with the monogram N (Nursery) within a gilt line rim including a circular serving dish, two oval serving dishes, a large circular tureen and cover, two smaller tureens and covers, two footed bowls, six soup plates, six dinner plates, six side plates; a further service with the monogram K (Kitchen) within an ochre rim including two oval serving dishes with gravy wells, a circular serving dish, two small oval dishes, a footed bowl (without initial), a smaller tureen and cover, six soup plates, six dinner plates, six side plates, in a fitted case and cover

Commissioned for Queen Mary and designed by Lutyens in 1922
The House was the concept of Princess Marie Louise, cousin to King George V and childhood friend of Queen Mary. She decided that the Queen, who loved all things diminutive and decorative, would enjoy the House and it was to become a symbolic gift to Queen Mary in the years after the First World War.
