Bernhard Buhmann (b.1979, Austria) studied painting and sociology at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna and the University of Vienna.

His paintings are spirits of the times – sensitive mirrors of the stages of everyday life. The spectrum of protagonists is commensurately broad, a motley crew ranging from clowns and creatures of fantasy, to bizarre flying machines and beyond, all the way to colorful abstractions. All of the periods and various subjects of work are characterized by questioning the (re)construction of identity and performative.

Buhmann has held several solo exhibitions internationally, most recently including, Unrast, Marinaro, New York (2020); The Chaser, the Ambusher and the Fickle, Carbon 12, Dubai (2019) and Fragments of Statue, Marinaro, New York (2017).

He has participated in international group exhibitions such as, No Sentences from Words, Fluc Wien, Vienna (2019); You haven’t started wondering about yet, Halsey Mckay Gallery, New York (2019); Collectivity: Objects and Associations in the UAE Art World, Maraya Art Centre, Sharjah (2017); After Picasso, Forum Frohner, Krems (2015); Color Dialogue, Sharjah Art Museum, Sharjah (2014) and 7//7, Museum Of Contemporary Art, Bucarest Museum Of Young Art, Vienna (2008).

Buhmann has been awarded many prestigious awards and residences, namely the Strabag Art Award, Vienna (2008); the Artist In Residence Program, Mallorca (2009) and several other reputable nominations.

Buhmann’s work has been acquired by many prominent collections including: MOYA: Museum Of Young Art, Vienna; Illwerkev VKW Corporate Collection, Vienna; Farook Foundation, Dubai; SPM: Salsali Private Museum, Dubai; Strabag Kunstforum, Vienna; CCA Andratx Foundation, Spain; Cleveland Clinic Art Collection, Abu Dhabi and the Pizzuti Collection, USA.
