Anonymous sale, New York, Christie's, 29 January 1999, lot 7.

Tobias Stranover was one of the leading emigré decorative painters working in England in the early part of the 18th century. His extensive knowledge of the different fruits and birds of the world is widely appreciated: in the present picture, a curious bird perches atop an orange melon, while examining the adjacent pear, peaches, and grapes.
