The two present trompe l'œil compositions depict an ensemble of carefully put together and refined elements - in the first of the pair, four signed prints by the Dutch engraver Cornelius Galle, a miniature portrait and two sheets of music are tied together with a red ribbon; the pair has five prints, the most noticeable one being a circular moonlit landscape with a bridge, another musical sheet and a clock tied with a blue ribbon. The special relationship between the ribbons and the paper is carefully depicted to fool the viewer into thinking they are set before real objects.
