4to (305 x 253mm.), number 35 of 170 copies, signed by the artist, pochoir decoration and illustrations by Schmied, loose as issued in original printed wrappers, blue card folder and slipcase, printed paper labels on spine of folder


A high point of art deco bookmaking by one of the most important book artists of the century. Mardrus (1868-1949), a Cairo-born Frenchman, translated many Arabic works into French, most famously One Thousand and One Nights; this particular text was composed by Mardrus in the oriental style, and supplied with fine illustrations by Schmied.
