Punchestown Racecourse is in the parish of Eadestown, near Naas, County Kildaire, Ireland and known as the home of Irish Jumps Racing and the annual Punchestown Irish National Hunt Festival. The first recorded race meeting at Punchestown was in 1824, the four mile cross-country course demanding negotiating obstacles that were part of the local terrain including single and double banks and stone walls. As Tod Ramos illustrates in his energetic composition, today Punchestown still stages some of the finest jump racing and is the only racecourse in Ireland that continues to host cross country racing.
