GIOVANNI ANTONIO CANAL, CALLED CANALETTO | AL DOLO (BROMBERG 4)
GIOVANNI ANTONIO CANAL, CALLED CANALETTO
Venice 1697 - 1768
AL DOLO (BROMBERG 4)
Etching, circa 1743-46, a good impression of Bromberg’s second state (of three), on paper with the Remondini watermark
plate: 299 by 426mm 11¾ by 16¾in
sheet: 380 by 510mm 15 by 20⅛in
Hinge mounted in two places along the upper edge to a modern cream mount. The margin is significantly larger than the online images suggest, as it is currently gripped to 2cm, or so, beyond the impression. There is some very minor toning where the sheet has been exposed within the mount, though this is only obvious upon close inspection. There is some minor surface dirt to the margin and a small gray stain to the lower right edge. The impression is strong. Sold in a modern silvered frame.
