FRANÇOIS BOUCHER | HALF LENGTH STUDY OF A YOUNG WOMAN, LOOKING DOWN TO THE RIGHT
Paris 1703 - 1770
HALF LENGTH STUDY OF A YOUNG WOMAN, LOOKING DOWN TO THE RIGHT
Red chalk heightened with white chalk, the upper left corner made up;
bears old attribution in brown ink, lower right: f Boucher
7½ by 6½ in.; 195 by 170 mm.
Laid down on an old decorative mount (possibly that of Francois Renaud). There is a sensitive old repair to the upper left corner which must presumably date to the late 18th/early 19th Century, when the drawing was laid down on its current mount. With the exception of this and some very minor surface dirt, the drawing remains in splendid fresh condition throughout, with the image strong and the red chalk and subtle touches of white vibrant. Sold in a decorative giltwood frame.
