CIRCLE OF JEAN FRANÇOIS DE TROY | A GROUP OF ELEGANT FIGURES SEATED IN A PARK
CIRCLE OF JEAN FRANÇOIS DE TROY
A GROUP OF ELEGANT FIGURES SEATED IN A PARK
oil on canvas
12⅞by 16 in.; 32.8 by 40.8 cm.
The canvas is lined, flat, and stable. There is an even, clear varnish. The colors remain bright, with beautiful pastel hues. Some of the loose brushwork has retained its impasto, particularly in the white highlights of costumes at center. Under ultraviolet light one can see scattered restorations throughout the composition, including along a line in the sky about 2 cms below the top edge, possibly from an old frame or fold. Otherwise the restorations are in darker areas and are not discolored or noticeable to the naked eye. The painting presents well overall. Offered in a carved giltwood frame.
