Sir David Salomons

Christie's London, The Celebrated Collection of Watches by Breguet formed by the Late Sir David Salomons, Bart., Part II, 1 June 1965, lot 25

Purchased from the above by E. Mannheimer

This watch is illustrated in Salomons, Breguet 1747-1823, p.158 and catalogued p.42.

Accompanied by Breguet certificate stamped by the retailer Desoutter (1 Maddox St. London) confirming date of sale in 1829 for approximately 2000 to 2200 Francs. Louis Albert Desoutter was a prominent French retailer who came to London in 1881 and shortly afterwards founded his own business in Maddox street.

This watch was formerly in the collection of Sir David Salomons. Sir David amassed the largest and most important collection of Breguet watches ever known, within which was the legendary grande complication watch that Breguet made for Marie Antoinette. Together with the latter watch, a large portion of Sir David's watches are now in the collection of the L. A. Mayer Museum in Jerusalem.
