AUSTRIAN

A TWO-COLOUR GOLD AND ENAMEL MANDOLIN-FORM WATCH WITH MUSICAL MOVEMENT

LATE 19TH CENTURY


earlier (circa 1820) gilded full plate movement, verge escapement, plain flat three-arm balance, decoratively pierced and engraved balance bridge, fusee and chain, cylindrical pillars, restored white enamel dial, black Roman numerals, outer minute ring with red Arabic 5-minute divisions, aperture for winding, filigree hands, barrel containing the earlier musical movement, on chains, the movement numbered: 1771, one spring illegibly signed and dated March 1810 or 1819, gold case (late 19th century), the back decorated with translucent blue guilloché enamel heightened with crowned monogram MA in gold, within a champlevé border of trailing flowers on a banded white enamel and gold ground, the front enamelled in white with fleurs-de-lis on a sablé ground, lever for music activation, diamond-set border, diamond-set thumb-piece opening to reveal the watch dial
