rectangular, the lid inset with an oval miniature of Empress Josephine, by Jean Baptiste Isabey, signed, circa 1804, in coronation robes, blue drapery background, the gilt mount chased with foliate scrolls against a sablé ground, blue enamel frame, the interior gold-lined, maker's mark, bear's head 3e titre and Paris grosse garantie for 1798-1809

Isabey depicts the Empress in the fanciful costume, inspired by the period of François 1er, which he conceived in conjunction with Jacques-Louis David for the coronation of Napoleon at Rheims catheddral in 1804.
