oval, the slightly domed lid and sides painted with animated tavern and kitchen scenes, in the manner of P. E. Schindler, that on the lid after La lecture de la Bible, by Jean-Baptiste Greuze, the base with a charming domestic vignette of a couple playing with their five pug dogs, chevron-engraved gold mounts, gold lining, apparently unmarked apart from later French control marks
