A GOLD AND ENAMEL COMMEMORATIVE SNUFF BOX WITH PORTRAIT OF NAPOLEON, PROBABLY GENEVA, MID 19TH CENTURY


rectangular with waisted sides, the lid painted en plein with a portrait of Napoleon I, Emperor of the French, wearing the uniform of a colonel of the Grenadier Foot Guards, and the sash, star and badge of the Legion of Honour and the badge of the Order of the Reunion, within two nymphs personifying Fame and Victory on a scroll-chased ground, the sides and base patterned with engine-turning within flowery enamel borders, the thumbpiece formed as an Imperial eagle, struck only: 18 K
