AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED ("E DELACROIX"), TO A PICTURE DEALER, M. THOMAS, ABOUT A NEWLY-COMPLETED PAINTING,

telling him that he can arrange for the new picture to picked up at his convenience, since he thinks that it will soon be dry enough to take a light varnish ("...vous pouvez envoyer chercher votre tableau quand vous voudrez : je crois même qu’il sera bientôt assez sec pour supporter notre petit vernis à l’eau..."), 1 page, 8vo, integral autograph address-leaf ("Monsieur Thomas M[archan]d de tableaux modernes rue du bac au coin de la rue de verneuil"), dated "ce 8 juillet", but postmarked: Paris, 28 July 1853

Among the paintings completed by Delacroix in 1853 are "La mort d'Ophélie" (The Louvre), "Christ sur le lac de Genesareth" (Metropolitan Museum in New York), and a Crucifixion now in the National Gallery.
