Bust of a Vestal Virgin

alabaster, on an Africano marble socle

inscribed: 164

54cm., 21¼in.

Overall the condition of the alabaster is very good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There are a few chips, notably one to the drapery below the proper right shoulder. There is a probably original circular insert above the proper left breast. A few minor abrasions, including to the tip of the nose. There is natural veining to the stone.
