An Italian carved granito del foro vase
17th century
of circular shape, the carved interior with a moulded paterae to the centre
16.5cm. high, 38cm. diameter; 6 1/2 in., 1ft. 3in.
The present example carved from granito del foro, also known as lapis psaronius, could well have been a bowl that stood on a pedestal or a waisted socle, and was therefore used as a stoup or a decorative element.
