An Egyptian Polychrome Limestone Relief fragment

26th Dynasty, reign of Psamtik I, 664-610 B.C., or earlier

carved in shallow relief with the head of a man wearing a broad collar facing left, the feet of a larger-scale striding figure in the upper register.

29.5 by 34.3 cm

Note various chips, abrasions, and scratches to carved surface. Metal plate screwed on to roughly worked back has a quadrangular vertical sleeve for hanging or for fitting onto a stand. Two holes drilled underneath probably for a previous mount, one of which has radiating cracks around it, some of which are filled in with glue/epoxy. Reddish colour permeates entire stone from front to back, suggesting it could be a fine type of sandstone rather than limestone?
