A Roman Giallo Antico Marble Figure of Herakles
circa 2nd Century A.D.
probably from a trapezophoros, standing with the weight on his right leg, his body wrapped in a lion skin leaving his left breast and shoulder bare, the neck and wrist hollowed out for insertion of the head and left hand respectively, the upper back with a vertical rectangular recessed area for insertion of the table leg; no restorations.
Height 65.5 cm.
Proper right corner of base in back missing.
Note chips to edges of folds on top of proper right shoulder, on top of right hand, on abdomen, and around lower edge of hand insert.
Neck carved out and with dowel hole for insertion of head in antiquity.
Shallow vertical ancient anathyrosis along back and between feet for attachment to table leg support.
