The Song of Songs (Le Cantique des Cantiques) are a series of allegorical verses, ascribed to King Solomon in the Old Testament. They tell the story of the great love between a Shulamite and a shepherd. King Solomon yearned for the beautiful young Shulamite and offered her all manner of luxuries and comfort. Her devotion to the shepherd, however, did not waiver. František Kupka provided illustrations for the poems in a book that was published in 1905. This is one of his original sketches.
