This spectacular armchair can be attributed to Pierre-Gaston Brion (1767-1855), cabinetmaker and supplier, from 1811, of the Imperial, then Royal garde-meuble; in 1824, he executed King Charles X's bed, after a model by the architect Jacques-Louis de La Hamayde de Saint-Ange (Louvre). The latter also designed the throne of King Charles X for his coronation (Mobilier National, GMT-1294-001) which was executed by the cabinetmaker Pierre-Antoine Bellangé and bears some similarities with the present armchair. Finally, it must be pointed out that our lot belongs to the same suite that the pair of armchairs and the three chairs from the Colonna-Walewski collection (https://colonnawalewski.ch/brion#).
