While Minerva began its contribution to the watchmaking world as an "établisseur" (ie: assembling watches from diverse external parts), the release of the caliber no. 20 in 1923 permanently placed the ambitious brand on the map. This highly complex column-wheel chronograph movement featured a Breguet balance-spring, a modern 17 jewels and boasted high-grade finishing. Minerva went on to manufacture some of the world's best chronographs during the 1930s, a highly productive period for the industry.
The present monopusher chronograph wristwatch is impressive by all means. Its oversized 45 mm case is fitted with a legendary chronograph caliber, and the time-tracking is displayed against an incredibly savoury enamel dial. In typical 1930s fashion, the dial is equipped with colour, evidencing the Tachymeter and Telemetric scales, with the inclusion of a most beautiful snail pattern to the centre of the dial.
This rare and nicely preserved wristwatch takes us back to a highly prolific period for chronographs (both military and civil pieces) with shockingly modern proportions.
