Private collection, Switzerland

Eduard Schleich studied at the Munich Academy, and privately. Initially influenced by the landscape style of Carl Rottmann (1797-1850) and Christian Morgenstern (1805-1867), he painted clear and simple mountain landscapes of Upper Bavaria and the Tyrol, influenced by his study of 17th century Dutch landscapes. This luminous mountain landscape illustrates well the artist’s wish to depict a mood rather than a geographically accurate representation.
