Colorno was the summer residence of Louise-Elisabeth, Duchess of Parma (1727-1759), Louis XV’s eldest daughter, who married Spain’s Infante Philip in 1739. Following the Treaty of Aix-La Chapelle, they took possession of the Duchy of Parma in 1748. The soon-to-be-named Madame Infante became enamored of Colorno, where she brought a large quantity of objects and furniture from the best Parisian workshops.

However, this dog house also illustrates the presence of typically Italian-made items in Colorno. The record number 2156 corresponds to the inventory drawn up in 1861 by the House of Savoy, two years after the duchy's attachment to the kingdom of Italy. The kennel is thus described: "Una canettiera da porsi in angolo, di legno intarsiato a fiori, imbottita e coperta nel piano superiore di damasco in seta cremisi" (information kindly provided by Prof. Giuseppe Bertini). It is also worth noting the crowned CR letters for "Casa Reale" near the inventory numbers. This mark usually appears on objects that remained in Colorno.

Following the inventory of 1861, certain items were transferred to Turin where they were sold. This dog house undoubtedly follows the fate of many decorative arts from the former collections of the Duchess of Parma in Colorno.

Colorno fut la résidence d'été de Louise-Elisabeth, duchesse de Parme (1727-1759), fille aînée de Louis XV, qui épousa en 1739 l'infant d'Espagne Don Philippe. A la suite du Traité d'Aix-La Chapelle, ils prirent possession en 1748 du duché de Parme. Celle que l’on nomma bientôt Madame Infante se passionna pour Colorno où elle fit transporter quantité d'objets et meubles, provenant des meilleurs ateliers parisiens.

Cependant, cette niche témoigne également de la présence d'objets d'exécution typiquement italienne à Colorno. Le numéro d'inventaire 2156 correspond à l'inventaire dressé en 1861 par la Maison de Savoie - deux ans après le rattachement du duché au royaume d'Italie - où la niche est ainsi décrite : "Una canettiera da porsi in angolo, di legno intarsiato a fiori, imbottita e coperta nel piano superiore di damasco in seta cremisi" (information aimablement communiquée par le professeur Giuseppe Bertini). Il convient également de noter, près des numéros d'inventaire, les lettres CR couronnées pour « Casa Reale » : cette marque apparait généralement sur les objets ayant séjourné à Colorno.

Suite à l'inventaire de 1861, certains objets furent transférés à Turin où ils furent vendus ; c'est sans doute le sort que subit cette niche, à l'image de nombreux biens provenant des anciennes collections de la duchesse de Parme à Colorno
