Property of a distinguished Italian collector

A Louis XVI gilt-bronze and white marble skeleton clock with calendar and remontoire, Jean-Simon Bourdier, Paris, dated 1788, the dial by Joseph Coteau


6-inch enamel dial with open centre, the outer minute track enclosing date, hours and days of the week, centre seconds, signed Bourdier and Coteau, the movement with spring barrel to the striking train with outside count wheel striking on a bell, the going train with pin wheel escapement powered by a separate remontoire movement mounted below and with massive spring barrel, the substantial five-bar gridiron pendulm with lenticular bob and beat adjustment on the crutch, the arched open frame surmounted by a basket of flowers and foliate scrolls above foliate swags, an enamel plaque applied to the centre of the arch inscribed Fecit An, 1788, the shaped marble plinth centred with a figure of chronos between short pillars; together with a giltwood stand and glass cover and a gilt-bronze horology medal dated 1786
