A George II carved giltwood overmantel mirror, circa 1755-60

the surmount in the form of a basket of flowers above an upper bevelled plate over a longer overmantel plate with two small brackets supported by scrolls to each side, the frame boldly carved and pierced rocaille work and foliage, re-gilt

140cm. high, 153cm. wide; 4ft. 7 1/4in., 5ft. 1/4in.

This finely executed mirror has been re-gilt. There is exposed gesso to raised areas of decoration and red bole exposed too. There is a loss of a flowerhead to the top left corner proper. Losses to silvering on mirror plates which appear aged and look good. It is possible that some may be replaced - especially the lower group. Typical old marks, chips etc to gilding and some well done glued repairs. This is a very decorative piece.
