A French classical tapestry, 'Portia', from the series illustrious women of Antiquity, Aubusson,
second half 17th century, after Isaac Moillon
woven with Portia and her husband Brutus in a luxuriously decorated interior room setting, within a four-sided floral border
approximately 284cm high, 306cm wide
Overall measurements: 302cm across the top, 306cm across the bottom, 282cm along the left side, 284cm along the right side Only partially lined in vertical strips of linen alternating with exposed strips of the reverse of the woven tapestry. Recommend that lining should be reviewed so that whole tapestry is protected, and that Velcro should be added across the top for hanging purposes in the future. Thick weave, commensurate with genre and workshop. Very good colour and condition overall. Decorative tapestry of balanced composition.
