The canvas has a firm relining and the paint surface is relatively dirty, with a slightly discoloured varnish. There is evidence of wear throughout the canvas and old, discoloured retouchings are visible scattered in her flesh tones. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a thick, streaky and rather opaque varnish, underneath which these retouchings are confirmed, and further revealed is a restored damage on the left side of the Magdalene's face, 4.5x8cm., as well as a repaired, horizontal tear through her neck, in a 2cm. band. In overall moderate condition.
