This basin, with its quadrilobate oval shape, seems to have been after the famous Fontana della Terrina, made by Giacomo della Porta (1532–1602) for the Campo de' Fiori between 1590 and 1595. As always used with goods from vendors of that square, this fountain was covered with a lid in 1622, which led to its popular nickname of the "tureen fountain". It was moved to the Piazza della Chiesa Nuova where it has been since 1924. A modern copy is now in the Campo de' Fiori.
