1999 New York Yankees World Series Ring Presented To Gene Michael With Original Presentation Box (Michael Family LOA)

The late Gene “Stick” Michael had a modest playing career that spanned from 1966 to 1975 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers. Michael’s last days of a player were with the Boston Red Sox in 1976, but was never used and released in May of that season. Upon retiring as a player, Michael joined the New York Yankees coaching staff, where he especially excelled as a scout. Reggie Jackson gave credit to Michael’s scouting reports that enabled him to belt three home runs against the Dodgers in Game 6 of the 1977 World Series. Michael would serve as manager of the Yankees from 1981-82 and as general manager from 1980-81 and 1991-1995 where he was responsible for the drafting of and signings of players like Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte and Jorge Posada that formed the famed “Core Four” group that led the Yankees to four World Series titles in five seasons.

One of those four seasons in which the Yankees won the World Series was 1999 and this is a Balfour 14K gold 1999 New York Yankees World Series championship ring, presented to the late Gene Michael, which features a large “NY” logo comprised of diamonds, while additional diamonds make up the face and perimeter. An approximate total of 99 diamonds appear and the year 1999 is represented in relief work. One side of the ring features the team’s top hat and bat logo, with banners reading “THE CENTURY’S TEAM”. Below an image of the stadium facade shows “25TH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP”. A Commissioner’s Trophy, set inside Yankee Stadium, centers the opposite shank, along with “25TH”, while “MICHAEL” appears at the top and “TRADITION” at the bottom. The inside of the band is marked “Balfour © 14K”. This ring is an approximate size 12, weighs approximately 50.44 grams and includes the 7 ¼ x 5 ½ x 2 ½-inch wooden presentation box, with glass etched “NEW YORK YANKEES 1999 WORLD CHAMPIONS”.
