Two intaglios with the same design exist in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, one given to Giovanni Pichler (inv. no. antikensammlung, XII 329) and the other to Luigi Pichler (inv. no. antikensammlung, XII 424). There is an intaglio version attributed Giovanni Pichler in the British Museum, London (inv. no. 1867, 0507.761). An intaglio with the same composition was sold in these rooms 6 July 2017, lot 98. The scene relates to a drawing by Angelica Kaufmann which is included in a letter of hers written in February 1790 to Wolfgang von Goethe and which was inspired by a gem in the writer's collection. Goethe had an overdoor panel in his house painted in grisaille to the same design by Heinrich Meyer.
