By the early 1920s, the photographic archives of Country Life magazine offered an outstanding range of images of the exteriors and interiors of many of the most important houses in England. Drawing on this resource, Tipping gives a history of most of the architecturally important homes and includes over 4,600 illustrations. This record is particularly valuable as a large number of photographic images of furnished interiors are given of houses that have since been demolished.
