While canoeing in 1900, Grey met Lina "Dolly" Roth, who was studying to be a schoolteacher. After a passionate and tumultuous courtship, Grey and Dolly married in 1905. Over the following decades, Dolly managed Grey's career and raised his children, while he was often away for months at a time. It was, in fact, Dolly's proofreading and copy editing, that helped Grey improve his writing early on in his career.
