Description
CIVIL WAR [CONFEDERATE]
Miller's Planters' & Merchants' State Rights Almanac, for the year of our Lord 1861: Being the ... First of Southern Independence. Charleston: A. E. Miller, [December 1860 - January 1861]
8vo (7 3/8 x 4 3/8 in.). 26 leaves, erratically paginated as issued, 5pp. publisher's advertisements at rear; interleaved with ruled paper at a contemporary date. Publisher's brown cloth, covers blocked in blind, upper cover titled in gilt; expertly rebacked to style.
A scarce Confederate almanac, with an early printing of the South Carolina Ordinance of Secession
The almanac includes a listing of the delegates from each county to the South Carolina Convention and the text of the Ordinance to dissolve the Union. Stated on the title as the third edition, this rare almanac is the first edition to include South Carolina's Ordinance of Secession (inserted unpaginated after page 28), arguably making it the earliest Confederate almanac.
