Full-sheet engraved map (21 1/2 x 25 in.; 547 x 638 mm). Geographic features partially handcolored in outline, vignette of Powhatan in council, figure of Indian warrior, and royal arms all handcolored in full, unusually wide margins; very minor soliling and chipping. Handsomely framed with UVIII Plexiglass.


This is one of the many significant derivatives of John Smith's map of Virginia, based on the 1618 version of Jodocus Hondius Jr.
