ANVILLE, JEAN BAPTISTE BOURGUIGNON D'

Amerique Septentrionale. Paris: Chez l'Auteur, [1746 or later]

Engraved map of North America on four sheets joined as two (each approx. 19 7/8 x 37 7/8 in.; 505 x 967 mm, top sheet with wider margins), engraved by Guillaume Delahaye, partially handcolored in outline, figural allegorical cartouche, inset map of Hudson's Bay; some very light offsetting. The two pairs of joined sheets uniformly handsomely framed with UVIII Plexiglass.

A fine copy of one of the best French maps of North America prior to the French and Indian War. This copy has been annotated by a contemporary French hand with commentary on several of the small islands in the Caribbean, including Saba and the Caymans.
