The Younger Daughter of Mrs William K Vanderbilt: a bronze figure, cast by vasluani, after the model by Prince Paul Troubetzkoy (1866-1938), 1910

bronze, dark brown patina, signed and dated Paul Troubetzkoy 1910, impressed with C. VALSUANI CIRE PERDUE

height 52.5cm, 20 3/4 in.

Around 1910 Troubetzkoy was commissioned to make portraits of the family of William Kissam Vanderbilt. These comprised standing portrait statuettes of William and his wife Virginia (née Fair), their two daughters and their thoroughbred horse. These were made probably in Paris at a time when the family where there on one of their many European trips which were often planned around William's passion for racing. In addition to this standing model of William K. Vanderbilt's younger daughter, exhibited in New York in 1911, Troubetzkoy also made a portrait bust of her, for which the plaster is preserved in the Museo del Paesaggio.
