A large silver galleried tray, Rivage, St Petersburg, circa 1885


in oriental style, finely chased with protruding male and female masks in high relief within an ornamental geometric cartouche, the scrolled handle with ivory insulators, gilt interior, engraved on the underside Charlottenhof 1923, struck on the underside with maker's mark beneath the Imperial warrant and underneath the lid with maker's initials, 84 standard

length with handles 56cm, 22in.

Acquired from A La Vieille Russie, New York in 1958, as a gift for the Silver (25th) Wedding Anniversary of the present owner's parents

 

Rivage was a famous silver firm manufacturing and trading silverware in St Petersburg, mentioned in 1885.
