Kivshenko produced the present watercolour for the album Otechestvennaya istoria v kartinax dlya shkoli i doma (A History of Russia in Pictures for the School and the Home). Published by Sergei Rozhdestvensky in 1881 as a supplement to his history text books, the portfolio included 30 watercolours by Kivshenko reproduced as chromolithographs, which could be bought separately or as a set. The present lot was published as number 11.
