The design of these vigorous aquatic pieces can be attributed to Charles Osborne, being particularly close to the Fitch punch bowl, designed 1881, and to the 1885 Goelet Cup (see John Loring, Magnificent Tiffany Silver, 2001, pp. 152-3 and 179).

A similar pair of candelabra by Tiffany from The Jerome Rapoport Collection of American Aesthetic Silver was sold Sotheby's, New York, June 20, 1996 lot 20.
