Description

A GOLD-MOUNTED ROCK CRYSTAL GOBLET & COVER

circa 1830

the rock crystal body engraved with a crest below earl's coronet, the gold mounts with strapwork enclosing masks and fruit, apparently unmarked

rock crystal and gold

height 8 in.; diameter 3 in.

8 oz 2 dwt (weighable)

The crest is that of Leeson, probably for the 3rd or 4th Earl of Milltown. It is highly unusual for an object of this type to be engraved with an English (or Irish) crest. Also very rare is the fact of the mounts being gold—they would normally be silver-gilt.
