FARMER ON HIS WAY TO CHURCH

gelatin silver print, with black borders, the photographer's 'Köln Lindenthal' blindstamp on the image, signed and dated by Gerd Sander, the photographer's grandson, in pencil, and the archive stamp, with numerical notations and edition '2/[12]' in ink, on the reverse, tipped to a paper mount, an 'August Sander Menschen Des Zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts' label and Sander Archive stamp, with edition number in ink, on the reverse, 1930, printed posthumously in 1990 (Citizens of the Twentieth Century, p. 64)

10¼ by 6½ in. (26 by 16.5 cm.)

This print, on double-weight Agfa paper with a semi-glossy surface, is in generally excellent condition. There are some small deposits of original retouching scattered across the print that are visible only in raking light. The corners are gently bumped.

On the reverse, it is noted in ink that this print is ASA # '3/5' and Ed. # '2'/12. It is annotated in an unidentified hand in pencil 'J-L D.'

The mount has a few stray deposits, possibly pencil, near the right edge.
