'BOARDS AND THISTLES'
mounted, signed in pencil on the mount, titled by Virginia Adams, the photographer's widow, in pencil on the reverse, framed, a Michael Shapiro Photographs label on the reverse, 1932
9⅛ by 6½ in. (23.2 by 16.5 cm.)
This early print, with a semi-glossy surface, is in generally excellent condition. Upon close examination in raking light, the following are visible: very faint silvering along the edges and in some of the darker areas; a few scattered hairline scratches, including a 1/4-inch scratch in the left center portion, none of which appear to break the emulsion; and a 1-inch raised area at the upper edge that may correspond with some fibers trapped between the print and mount. There is minute edge wear.
There is a small area of soiling on the lower left corner of the mount. 'Boards and Thistles' is written by Virginia Adams in pencil on the reverse.
When examined in ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
