GREEK STATUE

albumen print, mounted, circa 1860s

10½ by 8¼ in. (26.7 by 21 cm.)

Condition Report

Grading this albumen print on a scale of 1 to 10 – a 10 being a print with deep brown dark tones and cream-toned highlights that retain all of their original detail – this print rates a 9. The darkest areas of the print retain a rich chocolate brown tonality, and the highlights remain bright. In raking light the following are visible: some scuffs and scratches; and deposits of expertly applied retouching, possibly modern, in two small areas near the lower right corner. A small 1/4-inch tear at the right edge and creases to the upper corners occurred prior to or as a result of mounting.

The front and reverse of the mount is lightly soiled, including a small dark deposit of indeterminate nature near the lower center edge of the print. The edges and corners are lightly worn. The reverse is annotated in an unidentified hand in pencil, 'greece' and 'O12JJ [?].'
