VENETIAN SCHOOL, 18TH CENTURY

PERSEUS AND ANDROMEDA

oil on canvas, unframed

canvas: 18¾ by 14¼ in.; 47.5 by 36.2 cm.

The canvas is lined and is stable on its stretcher. There is a tear at center, measuring about 3 by 4 inches, as well as a thin tear in the lower left corner about 5 inches long. There are some minor scattered losses at the edges. Despite these, however, the painting is well-preserved beneath an old, discolored varnish. UV reveals a thick varnish. Scattered small cosmetic spots of retouch are scattered here and there (ie: one spot in shadow of face, some strokes in the red cloak near her arm, and near edges). Offered unframed.
