A LANDSCAPE WITH CATTLE AND RUINS BEYOND

oil on panel

panel: 20½ by 29½ in.; 51.8 by 74.9 cm

framed: 24¾ by 34 in.; 63 by 86.4 cm.

The panel is flat, stable, uncradled and shaped on the reverse edges. The overall image reads crisply beneath a clear varnish. There are two horizontal joins running across the width of the composition, suggesting that the work is made of three vertical boards. The joins are slightly raised and visible to the naked eye. Scattered retouching that is slightly discolored and visible to the naked eye at the aforementioned joins, in the upper architecture of the structure at upper right, in the back of the brown cow, scattered here and there in the background, including near center of the right edge. Inspection under UV reveals retouching to address a possible knot in the wood at upper right, some brushy retouching in the lower left background and lower sky, and fine strokes in and around the animals. Painting can be hung as is. Offered in a simply carved frame gilded and painted black.
