Siméon Del Monte (1878–1930), Brussels;

Madame Louisette Van Antwerpen, Paris;

By whose estate ("Property from the Estate of the late Madame Louisette Van Atwerpen") sold, Amsterdam, Sotheby's, 1 December 2009, lot 37;

There acquired.

G. Glück, La Collection del Monte, Vienna 1928, reproduced fig. 19 (as Frans Snyders);

H. Robels, Niederländische Zeichnungen vom 15. bis 19. Jahrhundert im Wallraf-Richartz-Museum Köln. , Cologne 1983, under cat. no. A 87 (as a presumed copy after a lost original).

The Hague, Kunstzaal Kleykamp, 1932, no. 19 (as Frans Snyders);

Sheffield, Graves Art Gallery, Pictures from the Del Monte Collection, 15 July - 26 August 1950, cat. no. 12 (as Frans Snyders).

The composition of this painting, which was formerly attributed to Frans Snijders, is repeated with some minor variations in two other paintings of lesser quality. One was sold in Brussels, Palais des Beaux-Arts, 12 June 1979, lot 636, and the other in London, Bonhams, 7 July 2004, lot 72. It is likely that all three derive from a lost original by Frans Snijders.
