Condition report

The canvas is unlined. The image reads well, the impasto is well-preserved, and the colors retain their vibrancy. There is one thin vertical line of retouching in the upper left sky, though faint and not distracting. There is a faint craquelure pattern scattered in the darks of foreground. Inspection under UV reveals a few strokes and spots of retouching around the top of the tower, left of center. There are some find and thin scattered spots of strenghtening in the sky, primarily in the darker hues in upper sky, right of center. Other than that, there are only a few small pin dots scattered here and there throughout, for example on the oar of the boat in the lower right foreground. The painting is in overall good condition and can certainly hang as is. Offered in a decoratively carved giltwood frame.

Known for his accurate depictions of Venice, Francesco Zanin's works follow the artistic tradition of Canaletto (1697-1768) and Francesco Guardi (1712-1793). Influenced by these two great Venetian artists, Zanin depicted daily events in Venice, particularly focusing on its mesmerizing architecture. The loose brushstrokes in his works capture the allure of Venice.
